September 5, 2012 — A criminal complaint was unsealed this morning in Brooklyn federal court charging Ting Huan Tai, also known as “Warren Tai,” the operator of United Medical Diagnosis, P.C. (“UMD”), based in Flushing, New York, with healthcare fraud in connection with his submission of more than $30 million in false Medicare and Medicaid billings. A seizure warrant seeking the defendant’s alleged ill-gotten gains, including a Lamborghini automobile, was also unsealed.

August 29, 2012 — Varian Medical Systems announced that it has become a supporter of a phase III study comparing radiosurgery with surgical resection for the treatment of early-stage, high-risk, operable non-small cell lung cancer.

August 29, 2012 — New magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) research shows that changes in brain blood flow associated with vein abnormalities are not specific for multiple sclerosis (MS) and do not contribute to its severity, despite what some researchers have speculated. Results of the research are published online in the journal Radiology.

August 28, 2012 — According to the American College of Radiology (ACR), a paper by Gierach et al. in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (which is not the National Cancer Institute's journal) says that, although they are at a small increased risk of developing breast cancer, women with dense breast tissue (a large percentage of fibrous and glandular tissues) are not at an increased risk of dying from breast cancer when compared to women with mostly fat in their breasts.
