April 8, 2011 – At the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Annual Scientific Meeting in New Orleans, Siemens Healthcare demonstrated how users of nuclear imaging systems can use its IQ•SPECT to help reduce the length of imaging protocols.

April 7, 2011 – Saint Barnabas Health Care System (SBHCS), New Jersey’s largest healthcare delivery system, has selected McKesson to replace its multiple legacy medical imaging solutions. SBHCS plans to implement the Horizon Medical Imaging picture archiving communications system (PACS) to integrate patient data and images from multiple modalities across its multi-facility health system.

April 7, 2011 – Testing on the new Intel Xeon processor E7 product family indicates that they can help deliver responsive access to a larger number of users per server on PACS systems. Carestream Health was one of the first healthcare providers to test the processors on their PACS and SuperPACS Architecture.

April 6, 2011 – Using MRI, researchers may be able to predict which adults with mild cognitive impairment are more likely to progress to Alzheimer’s disease. The finding comes from a study published online and in the June issue of Radiology.

April 4, 2011 – The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland and Elekta are collaborating to further develop treatment planning and oncology information systems (OIS) for proton therapy. Proton therapy is a form of external beam radiation that uses protons instead of X-rays or electrons to treat certain types of cancer and other diseases.
