January 13, 2009 - Tampa Bay Radiation Oncology has opened the Tampa Bay area’s second CyberKnife treatment center and the first to be located in Brandon, FL – the New Millennium CyberKnife Center.
With Accuray's Cyberknife, the center aims to provide new levels of hope for survival to cancer patients throughout the communities of Brandon, Sun City Center, Apollo Beach, Bradenton, Sarasota, Lakeland, Plant City and all surrounding counties in West Central Florida.
According to John R. Steel, M.D., the CyberKnife center's technology will open the door to treating cancers that could not be previously treated with traditional radiation. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis without the need for general anesthesia. It provides a noninvasive radiosurgical treatment option with no pain allowing the patients to recover quickly following treatment.
