February 27, 2008 - Dr. Peter Basch, Medical Director, Ambulatory Clinical Systems for MedStar Health received the HIMSS Physician IT Leadership Award presented at HIMSS 2008, given to a person who has demonstrated noteworthy leadership in the area of applying IT to the needs of physicians, serving the organization and/or the industry.
The award can be given for a single exceptional contribution, for a sustained contribution, or for a lifetime of exceptional leadership. Dr. Basch received the award for his many years of leadership in furthering the cause of EHR adoption, and for his work locally, regionally, and nationally in health information technology policy.
Dr. Basch, a customer of the GE Healthcare Centricity EMR, is a member of eHealth Initiative Board of Directors and its Leadership Council, is a frequent speaker, author, and expert panelist on such topics as EMRs, interconnectivity, the transformation of healthcare through HIT and the necessity of creating a sustainable business case for information management. Dr. Basch recently chaired the State of Maryland’s Task Force on EHRs (electronic health records) and is immediate past co-chair of the Physicians' EHR Coalition.
