Rendoscopy, Inc., a developer of advanced 3-D visualization software, announced that the FDA has given 510(k) market clearance to its Gentle Colon virtual colonoscopy application, designed to offer a speedy solution to the market.
Gentle Colon can reportedly achieve faster rendering speeds than other virtual colonscopy solutions via its virtual fly-through mode. The software provides the flattened view and the split-colon view and generates 2-D and 3-D views on a single user interface.
“I am using the software or examining the cases that were acquired through various clinical trials. Particularly impressive is its fast rendering speed in the virtual fly-through mode—probably one of the fastest among those that provide similar functions,” said Hiro Yoshida, M.D., associate professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and the director of 3-D Imaging Research at the Massachusetts General Hospital. “Also impressive is its capability of providing, on a single platform, the majority of the visualization methods of the colon proposed in the virtual colonoscopy community, such as the flattened view and the split-colon view. The wide spectrum of visualization modes makes Rendoscopy a very attractive all-in-one tool for virtual colonoscopy examinations.”
