November 14, 2008 - Carestream Health just introduced the new SuperPACS architecture, designed to integrate multi-vendor, multi-site PACS into an efficient enterprise solution.
SuperPACS will allow healthcare providers to efficiently connect disparate PACS at multiple sites throughout a healthcare system. The company is also showing its newest versions of RIS and PACS software - all three platforms are works-in-progress. The company showed SuperPACS for the first time at the Radiological Society of North America’s annual meeting this week.
The SuperPACS architecture will provide an umbrella structure that communicates with existing PACS from multiple vendors to help create an efficient enterprise-wide PACS that will: offer a unified, common global worklist; use existing PACS systems, avoiding replacement costs; apply customer-defined rules to route specific types of exams to preferred radiologists for that specialty; and reportedly improve radiologist productivity through a single desktop with one user interface and one set of clinical application tools.
The SuperPACS Architecture, currently a work in progress, will be available for order in the second quarter of 2009. It was shown for the first time at the Radiological Society of North America’s annual meeting this week.
Carestream Health also introduced a new generation of its flexible, fully integrated RIS/PACS platform as a work in progress at RSNA. The new Web-based CARESTREAM RIS employs a Microsoft® .NET architecture, which will offer tremendous flexibility and scalability in a thin-client solution. This architecture will allow users to refine features to automate workflow and speed implementation. It also will deliver secure remote access for physicians; enable greater collaboration using IBM Sametime™ technology; and offer an optional portal that allows patient scheduling within parameters set by healthcare providers.
The new CARESTREAM PACS will help increase radiologist productivity with a unified virtual desktop that can facilitate faster reading of CT, MR and PET/CT exams through automatic registration. It also will offer an innovative “power viewer” that builds a single virtual study with real-time volume matching of all relevant studies (new and prior) to automatically register and synchronize them in one click.
