In stroke, time saved on imaging is time gained in the treatment window. The recently updated guidelines from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association expand the window of time for clinicians to treat stroke. The Gates Vascular Institute in Buffalo, N.Y., has begun using protocols like Neuro One on the Aquilion One/Genesis Edition computed tomography (CT) system from Canon Medical Systems USA Inc. combined with Vitrea's 4-D Neuro Perfusion software to adapt to the new guidelines.

GE Healthcare and VA Puget Sound Health Care System, Washington, recently announced a partnership to accelerate the use of 3-D imaging in healthcare. As part of their research agreement, GE Healthcare will provide software and workstations, and the VA will provide input on its use of the technology. Prior to this agreement, the VA has used 3-D software that is not designed for medical use. Now, the VA will use GE software designed specifically for the medical field – which is expected to reduce the time it takes to create 3-D models from hours to minutes.

RaySearch has decided to develop a treatment control system, RayCommand, to act as a link between its RayStation treatment planning system (TPS) and RayCare oncology information system (OIS). The first customer will be Advanced Oncotherapy plc (AVO), a U.K.-based developer of next-generation proton therapy technology. AVO will use it for the first LIGHT (Linac Image Guided Hadron Technology) system at the proton therapy facility under construction at Harley Street in central London, U.K.
