The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) announced a $2 million prize for development of a positron emission tomography (PET) tracer to visualize the protein alpha-synuclein, the priority therapeutic target and biomarker candidate of Parkinson's disease research. The prize aims to motivate the field toward this vital research tool, which would allow for earlier and more precise diagnosis, progression tracking, and more efficient and effective intervention testing.

Philips announced it would be showcasing a variety of nuclear imaging solutions at the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) 2016 Annual Meeting, June 11-15 in San Diego.

After following a large sub-set of patients, researchers found that by using strain echocardiography they could accurately predict which patients were likely to have complications from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).

June 13, 2016 – While 3-D printing has been around since the mid-1980s, there is accumulating evidence that this technology has the potential to revolutionize the understanding and management of heart conditions. A team of researchers from the Cleveland Clinic created a 3-D model of an aortic valve from a patient with a severe case of calcific aortic stenosis (AS) — narrowing of the aortic valve — to simulate the patient’s beating heart and assess the blood flow, or “hemodynamics.”
