GE Healthcare announced Signa Premier, a new wide bore 3.0T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system, is now available for sale in the United States. Signa Premier is the result of a four-year collaboration with the National Football League (NFL) and research institutions around the world working to design new imaging tools, particularly to aid researchers in the detection of biomarkers for the potential diagnosis of mild traumatic brain injury (TBI). GE said the system delivers a new level of clinical performance with additional research-focused capabilities, especially for neurology and oncology research.

Cancer patients at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla., now have access to advanced diagnostic imaging for fast and safe exams with the facility’s Infinix-i 4-D computed tomography (CT) system from Toshiba Medical, a Canon Group company. Moffitt, one of the nation’s leading cancer hospitals, is the first healthcare provider in the state of Florida to use the system’s merging of the Infinix-i angiography system and Aquilion Prime CT system for interventional radiology (IR) and oncology procedures. The system may help clinicians improve visualization and workflow and increase patient safety. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on July 25 to mark the occasion.

Researchers presented clinical data supporting use of the Xoft Axxent Electronic Brachytherapy (eBx) System for the treatment of endometrial cancer at the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Annual Meeting & Exhibition, July 30-Aug. 3 in Denver. iCAD also showcased its multi-platform Xoft System and related suite of products at its booth during the meeting.

Carestream will showcase its Carestream Touch Prime and Touch Prime XE Ultrasound Systems at the Society for Vascular Ultrasound conference that begins on Aug. 3. These systems are currently available in the United States and Canada.

August 3, 2017 — On July 21, 2017, Fujifilm issued an Urgent Medical Device Correction and Removal notification informing customers of its voluntary recall of all ED-530XT duodenoscopes. This action includes replacement of the ED-530XT forceps elevator mechanism including the O-ring seal, replacement of the distal end cap, and new Operation Manuals. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared the updated design and labeling for the ED-530XT on July 21, 2017.

It looked like the autistic child at the Children's Hospital of Georgia at Augusta University (AU) Health would have to be sedated. Showing extreme apprehension, the young boy flatly refused to even go into the CT suite, staff recalled. That changed after the child "scanned" a foam elephant with the Philips KittenScanner. 

August 3, 2017 – Fujifilm Medical Systems U.S.A. Inc. announced the release of its Synapse PACS (picture archiving and communication system) version 5 in the United States. Featuring the latest server-side rendering architecture, Synapse 5 is one component of Fujifilm’s comprehensive enterprise imaging portfolio which includes Synapse VNA (vendor neutral archive), Enterprise Viewer, Cardiovascular, 3-D, RIS (radiology information system) and cloud services.

Aktina Medical announced a collaboration with Philips Medical Systems and Elekta Instruments for SRS interlocking at the 2017 American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) conference.
