February 18, 2016 — Visage Imaging Inc. announced the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the University of Florida (UF) have selected the Visage 7 Enterprise Imaging Platform as the new enterprise diagnostic viewer of the Emergent/Critical Care Imaging SIMulation (SIM).
SIM is the assessment component of the Wisdom in Diagnostic Imaging Program (WIDI), a multifaceted and fully integrated online assessment, education and remediation program jointly developed by the ACR and UF faculty for diagnostic radiology residents. Visage 7 enables enterprise imaging with fast, thin-client, server-side processing technology, as well as simple diagnostic mobile access via Visage Ease Pro.
At the onset of their competitive nine-month evaluation, both ACR and UF approached Visage with a set of limitations that had proven to be problematic for the SIM program. Namely, the multiple Web-based and zero footprint enterprise image viewers the ACR had used for SIM summarily did not have the ease of access, integration flexibility, consistent fast performance and breadth of clinical functionality required to adequately simulate diagnostic interpretation.
Following a comprehensive, performance-based evaluation of multiple viewers, Visage 7 was selected to provide a state-of-the-art assessment platform for diagnostic radiology residents. Visage 7 will be integrated to the ACR’s Radiology Case Management System (RCMS), electronically delivering SIM as a cloud-based training and assessment environment.
“The lack of consistency, capability and performance of our prior image viewers had presented significant challenges to the efficiency of SIMulation delivery,” said Anthony A. Mancuso, M.D., chairman and professor of radiology in the UF College of Medicine and ACR/UF SIM/WIDI program co-leader.
“Visage stands to improve the image viewing experience of the SIMulation, creating a professional, clinically appropriate and an even more realistic simulated interpretation environment. We are delighted with that prospect,” said Linda Lanier, M.D., UF associate professor of radiology and associate chairman of the department, and ACR/UF SIM/WIDI program co-leader.
The ACR/UF SIM powered by Visage 7 will be demonstrated at the upcoming ACR 2016 | The Crossroads of Radiology annual meeting, May 16-17 in Washington, D.C.
