The Amsterdam University Medical Center has won MR Solutions’ Image of the Year 2019 award for the best molecular research image. Preclinical image submissions came in from most of MR Solutions’ users across the world. The winners, which were presented at the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) conference, May 11-16 in Montreal, QC, Canada, were chosen by a panel of leading academics who examined images from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET) or computed tomography (CT) – or a combination of imaging modalities.
Researchers from Bourgogne University in Dijon, France, showed that use of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (NPs) using multimodal positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) offers promising improvements in imaging capabilities. The paper is published in the American Chemical Society journal ACS Omega.

British-based MR Solutions has introduced the world’s first commercial, superconducting, preclinical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner that does not require the traditional liquid helium cooling jacket. The introduction follows a call in June by anaesthetist Tom Dolphin of the British Medical Association’s junior doctors’ committee for a ban on using helium in balloons, as there is a shortage for MRI scanners.
