- Mammography screening, biopsy and follow-up workflow
- Document scanning for integration of cardiology reports and documentation into enterprise systems
- Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line and digital volume tomography (DVT) workflow
- Multiple redundant pathways for closed loop results communication, such as discharge instructions
- Additional integration points with EMR systems, such as Epic and Cerner
January 9, 2014 — Primordial, a vendor for medical imaging communications, workflow, quality management and analytics applications, announced the addition of numerous customers, its entrance into the radiologist reporting system market and the development of new capabilities across all of its product lines.
Radiology Reporting System
Primordial has deployed a next-generation radiology reporting system at an East Coast integrated health system. The system allows radiologists to craft reports that embed key images (multimedia report), show or hide annotations and measurements and perform lesion analysis and tracking all with limited impact on the radiologist's dictation style and productivity. The resulting multimedia report is distributed as an embedded part of the health system's electronic medical record (EMR). The multimedia reports will soon incorporate live feedback and messaging components to increase bidirectional communication between radiologists and referring physicians.
The following enhancements have been added to these Primordial solution areas:
Prism Reading Workflow Orchestration Platform
Through the management of all core radiologist reading (and for some, protocoling) workflow at large integrated delivery networks (IDNs) and hospitals such as Baptist Health South Florida, Miami, Premier Health Partners, Ohio, and University of Rochester, N.Y. Primordial's orchestration application has grown and provides reading workflow capabilities in radiology information systems (RIS) and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS). Prism allows departments to implement assignment rules, real-time productivity tracking, rotation-based worklist adjustments, service-level reprioritization, clinical directives and customizable bidirectional integration with PACS, dictation, EMR, document management and other customer systems.
Communication Platform
Primordial has enhanced its Critical Results, ED-Radiologist/Resident and its Presence/Collaboration applications with paging capabilities at healthcare organizations such as Memorial Hermann, Houston. Primordial is also integrating with third party communication hubs to permit Virtual Rounds for radiologists.
Quality Platform
This year several Primordial customers, such as Charlotte Radiology, Charlotte, N.C., Methodist Healthcare System, Texas, and MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, Baltimore, have deployed Primordial's Quality Campaign solution, which allows hospitals to create campaign that target specific report or image quality issues. The Primordial system then automatically finds and distributes suitable studies to the appropriate persons for review. Quality campaigns can now be fine-tuned, for example, matching specific positive findings in the report (e.g., "Coronary artery calcification") to review specific types of studies.
Real-Time Platform (Operational Whiteboards)
Primordial's customizable and ergonomic electronic whiteboards platform has been extended with domain-specific enhancements addressing ED and interventional radiology departments. This is in addition to domains for magnetic resonance (MR), ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) and general X-ray.
Teaching Platform
Primordial has developed and deployed a resident scoring and comparison application that can visually identify changes to a report made after an attending physician reviews and edits the resident's reports. This augments the resident scoring and analytics of Primordial's other teaching applications.
Search and Follow-Up Platforms
Primordial's Search application continues to integrate external data sources beyond radiology reports; pathology and lab data are now integrated. The Lab and Path data enhance Primordial's unified patient view, "Patient Jacket,” and support features such as Rad-Path correlation and notification. Departments can also now track patient and referring M.D. compliance with follow-up recommendations and create worklists to facilitate follow-ups and reminders for patients returning to the department.
DoseMetrix Platform
DoseMetrix now allows sites to automatically upload DICOM dose information to the American College of Radiology (ACR) Dose Index Registry (DIR). Primordial has also been developing fluoroscopy tracking and compliance logging at two leading institutions, one of which has engaged Primordial to track fluoroscopy across the entire enterprise: radiology, cardiology, surgery and more.
RadMetrix Platform
RadMetrix has added analytics relating to schedule efficiency and optimization, integration of core external workflow data and display of data in highly flexible dashboards that embed externally developed applications.
Other Applications/Modules
Primordial demonstrated the entire suite of its applications at the Radiological Society of North America Annual Meeting (RSNA 2013) in Chicago.
