August 15, 2011 — Viztek is releasing PikoPACS, a brand new picture archiving and communication system (PACS) product, at absolutely no cost. The new offering is a member of the Opal-RAD PACS family, and even uses the same viewer. The system is being released as a free download, available to the public from Viztek’s website.
The software features a one-click installer that works on most existing personal computers. PikoPACS uses a Web-browser worklist for ease of deployment, making the need for IT support unnecessary in most cases. The product is intended for small clinics and anyone else looking for a single or multi-user PACS. Functionalities include unlimited DICOM Receive, Send, and Print nodes, in addition to Patient CD Burn and even importing of outside CDs. The product stems from the Opal-RAD PACS and will offer several paid-for upgrade options applicable to medium-sized facilities.
PikoPACS uses a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved viewer, has unlimited DICOM connections, and works on almost any web-browser including Chrome, IE, and Firefox. The ultra-thin viewer provides multiple users with access to exams throughout a facility; it also offers upgrades such as specialized tool-sets and additional concurrent users.
