July 15, 2011 — eHealth Global Technologies (eHGT) announced the release of version 2.0 of its hybrid-federated architecture for its eHealth Connect Diagnostic Image Exchange service.
This release provides three key enhancements to the eHealth Connect service. The first is support for emergency/trauma workflows, enabling immediate review of diagnostic-quality images before they have been reported upon, which is an important capability for rural locations connected to the Health Information Exchange (HIE).
The second enhancement is a more flexible distributed architecture which will more readily adapt to the needs of very large image providers, like academic hospitals that are concerned with fast access to their imaging exams; as well as very small environments, like critical access hospitals, that are concerned with low-cost connectivity.
The third key advancement is the availability of an "image exchange utility" model that allows an HIE to simply "plug in" to the eHGT image exchange service, enabling the deployment of a secure weblink to diagnostic images within the existing radiology reporting workflow.
