IBA Promotes Proton Therapy for Smaller Facilities
Ion Beam Applications S.A.,(IBA), has a new COMPACT Proton Therapy System. The scaled-down building, equipment and medical software configuration costs less than a quarter of the original proton therapy technology’s more than $120-million price tag. As a result, smaller facilities and those serving smaller patient populations will gain access to clinical capabilities historically limited to larger, urban multiroom facilities.
The COMPACT Proton Therapy System is powered by IBA’s Proteus 235 Cyclotron, which produces proton beams of up to 230 million electron volts that are directed to a single gantry treatment room to destroy tumors, according to the company. The new IBA COMPACT PT System is is available as a stand-alone turnkey facility or integrated as an addition into an existing radiation oncology department.
