December 5, 2007 - Siemens Medical Solutions yesterday said the newest version of its Invision health information system is now generally available, which contains platform, database and application upgrades to assist in streamlining information across clinical, financial, and administrative functions.

The new Invision 27 contains enhanced features focused on supporting customers in their patient safety initiatives, with the most prominent being allergy enhancements. With this version, Siemens says customers can migrate to the new Drug Allergy Module (DAM) from First DataBank(FDB). This new module provides additional allergen information designed to improve clinical checking. For example, allergy codes have a new structure based on drug names, groups, and ingredients. The allergy data can be interfaced to various systems including Siemens Pharmacy and Soarian Clinicals to support the foundation for the electronic health record. In order to support the new drug allergy codes and future regulatory and functional enhancements, Siemens said it has performed its largest platform upgrade.

Denver Health and Hospital Authority, a healthcare system consisting of a 500-bed main hospital, a 911 medical response system, a network of family and school-based health centers, public health resources, and a level I trauma center, has been a Siemens customer since 1996 and was recently upgraded to Invision 27.

“The upgrade was nearly flawless and the support we received from our partners at Siemens was outstanding,” said Gregory Veltri, chief information officer, Denver Health. “Siemens finished ahead of schedule and actually caught us in the middle of completing maintenance on gateways. The feedback we received from our staff members and physicians after the upgrade was all positive.”
