August 3, 2009 - St. Joseph’s Hospital, a rural facility, has selected AccelaRAD’s Virtual Radiology Network (VRN) to provide efficient digital management of multimodality diagnostic images, including image access for its offsite radiology reading group and report access for referring physicians.
St. Joseph’s Hospital offers a full range of advanced digital imaging exams, from X-ray and ultrasound to CT and MRI. With no radiologists on staff, all these exams are read by a contract teleradiology group, which has been using its own VRN to access the images for some time. Exam results have been faxed to the hospital in hardcopy, while hospital- or community-based referring physicians requesting images receive them by courier or mail.
Once connected to the AccelaRAD VRN, authorized St. Joseph’s doctors will be able to log on to the system over the Internet from any location and immediately obtain electronic reports and images in full diagnostic resolution from the secure, offsite AccelaRAD archive. According to Kim Radcliff, RT (R) (M), imaging director for the hospital, “The new VRN technology will offer important benefits. Physicians will have more immediate access to images, which may mean faster patient care. Additionally, physicians who did not take advantage of the images before are now more likely to do so because of the easy access provided by the AccelaRAD system.”
The VRN can bring advanced digital image technology within the economic reach of medical facilities of any size.
