June 9, 2009 - Compressus launched a MEDxConnect workflow management implementation at Radiology Associates of the Fox Valley (RAFV) of Neenah, Wisc. The implementation was announced here at 26th Annual Meeting of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM), June 4-7, 2009.

RAFV selected Compressus to implement the enterprise-wide digital imaging and data management systems integration to virtualize workflow for improved patient care and increased productivity.

Supporting 9 hospital sites and multiple clinics in the Northeastern Wisconsin area with 33 board certified radiologists, RAFV's implementation involves the installation of a spectrum of MEDxConnect System components, enabling various PACS, HIS, RIS and other data information systems to connect and communicate across the Enterprise. The digital workflow management solution from Compressus is designed to support a facility's current and expanded workload and provide an infrastructure for sustained growth. Building the functionality required for remote connectivity, the system enables users to access diagnostic images and reports in the existing data stores at each facility, increasing the level of medical care while reducing the associated costs.

"Growing from a single radiologist practice 70 years ago, RAFV has always been on the forefront of imaging technologies and the adoption of digital workflow management and interoperability is no exception," said Daniel Camacho, M.D., radiologist and RAFV interoperability physician champion. "Covering a large number of hospitals and clinics across a very broad geographic territory, our practice had already put in a great deal of effort to create a secure centralized web-based system to facilitate remote reading and access to prior exams and reports. However, despite this investment, our ability to provide rapid and accurate patient care and our ability to manage our productivity was constantly challenged by the inability of disparate healthcare IT systems to connect and exchange data."

The MEDxConnect System acts as a communications hub to create a virtual, unified worklist common to all connected users, enabling various health information systems to connect and communicate across the Enterprise. Utilizing HL7, DICOM, and other standards, the System helps control the flow of images, reports, messages, standard patient demographics and other important data for diagnosis and treatment planning of a patient between otherwise independent and disparate systems. Designed to enable physicians to read from anywhere, automatically pre-fetch prior exams and patient information, and efficiently transmit images and cases between sites for consults or workload balancing, the MEDxConnect generates significant workflow improvements and results in faster and more accurate reports and better patient care.
