June 1, 2009 - The Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) announced the recipients of the 2009 Resident Scholarship Awards and New Investigator Travel Awards.
SIIM Resident Scholarship Award winners receive complimentary meeting registration and travel expense reimbursement to attend the SIIM 2009 Annual Meeting in Charlotte, N.C., June 4-7, and one year complimentary membership in SIIM.
Applicants wrote essays on the topic: "Besides PACS, what one piece of software most improves workflow efficiency for radiologists?" and were judged by a panel of SIIM experts.
The two recipients are Tessa S. Cook, M.D., Ph.D., of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania; and Yun Robert Sheu, M.D., of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
"The SIIM Resident Scholarship Program had another very successful year. SIIM specifically encourages resident participation, and these scholarships are an excellent way for interested trainees to experience the meeting. We hope that all the residents who participated in the contest will have the opportunity to join us in Charlotte for SIIM 2009," said Barton Branstetter IV, MD, chair of the SIIM Resident and Fellow Education and Training Subcommittee.
The winning essays will be published in an upcoming issue of SIIM News, the Society member newsletter.
Travel awards are presented to new investigators with an area of study and interest in imaging informatics, who are in a full-time training program, or who have completed their training program within two years of the SIIM Annual Meeting.

Andrew Wu, M.D., University of Iowa Health Care
