December 4, 2008 - At RSNA 2008, Barco will demonstrate its latest technology in powerful yet budget-friendly processing solutions for the large volume images created by today’s imaging devices, with prototypes in the area of FPGA, CPU and GPU technology.

After winning the 2008 Frost & Sullivan European Product Innovation Award for its GPU-based ‘TDRS-7101’ engine, Barco has extended the application to suit a broad range of custom-built modality subsystems. One is a high-performance 4D CT rendering platform. The solution is capable of generating high-quality representations of multi-slice CT data in near real-time (4D CT). According to Barco, the system anticipates the rise of 4D imaging in cardiac or endoscopy applications.

Other innovations include a “three-in-one” General Purpose GPU-platform for medical imaging applications. This powerful engine can perform image reconstruction, as well as processing and visualization with unparalleled speed and quality. The platform offers imaging equipment manufacturers the flexibility to reduce costs, while enhancing the flexibility of their CT, MR, X-ray or any other modality system.

Finally, Barco is also presenting the latest version of its MICB-1340 Image Compression Board. This PCIe board is specifically designed for network-based medical imaging applications. Installed in a server, it will reduce CPU load, reduce bandwidth, and improve image quality, leading to world-class medical applications even on light client devices over narrow bandwidth. The MICB board is currently being rolled out in hospitals across the globe as part of advanced, network-based EMR/PACS viewers from Agfa HealthCare and Medical Insight.
