April 18, 2008 - Two Texas-based health information technology companies, Sevocity and SecureCare Technologies, are partnering to create a paperless EHR designed to essentially eliminate the initial costs and behavioral burdens of implementing an EHR system for healthcare providers.
Through the partnership, Sevocity, a San Antonio-based EHR vendor, will offer the Austin-based SecureCare Technologies’ product, Sfax, one of the first EFR (electronic fax record) for health care, to its customer base of 250 physicians. The addition of Sfax to Sevocity’s services enables a paperless office for Sevocity’s clientele. Typically with EHRs, users still must scan paper documents and records incoming from outside of the office, close to 80 percent of which are transmitted via manual faxing methods. Because most patient health documents are faxed in already, the union of Sfax and Sevocity technologies allows for a paper-free environment, eliminating the common occurrence of lost and misplaced medical records.
Sevocity is immediately deploying Sfax to existing customers and offering it as a part of the Sevocity EHR solution to future ones. Physicians and their staff on average fax approximately 1,000 pages a month, dedicating valuable amounts of time towards paper processes rather than patient care. With the addition of Sfax, customers no longer have to scan or process faxed documents except electronically through Sfax, which saves them up to 95 percent of the time and up to 80 percent of the costs over manual faxing methods.
