January 24, 2008 - The Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) is coordinating efforts to provide resources for imaging informatics professionals (IIPs), including those preparing for the American Board of Imaging Informatics (ABII) Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) exam, to highlight the need for educational resources and study materials for exam preparation, as well the need for gaining knowledge of the emerging imaging informatics profession.
SIIM is focused on leading and coordinating this effort through the establishment of the SIIM IIP Education Advisory Network (EAN) and the development of educational courses and materials for imaging informatics professionals. The SIIM Board of Directors recently approved and released a Position Statement on IIP Education and ABII Certification.
SIIM and the collaborative EAN team are pleased to announce the completion of the overall educational Learning Objectives for each of the 10 domains of the ABII TCO. In the coming year, the task of the EAN is to drill down 1 to 3 levels deeper than the ABII TCO outline and create a knowledge-based outline using the educational learning objectives as the basis.
The SIIM efforts are designed to strengthen and augment the resources available to the IIP community at large with expanded online resources for IIPs. The new Imaging Informatics Professional Sections of the SIIM Website will more effectively communicate SIIM's resources and include up-to-date information, FAQs, and documents on SIIM educational initiatives and position statements for IIPs.
Other society programs for IIPs include the popular IIP Symposium, scheduled for May 14, 2008, just prior to the SIIM 2008 Annual Meeting in Seattle; an IIP educational roadmap and new CIIP study groups at the 2008 Annual Meeting; and various publications, podcasts, and online web seminars for the imaging informatics professional.
