Candelis will expand the capabilities of its ImageGrid PACS Appliance with the addition of an enhanced ImageGrid Web Viewer (IG Viewer) designed for general radiology applications. As a Web-enabled application residing on the ImageGrid appliance, the Web viewer reportedly allows radiologists to perform diagnostic reading from any workstation on a Local Area Network, Wide Area Network or remote workstations via a Virtual Private Network.

In addition to studies archived on ImageGrid, radiologists are also able to open local studies referenced by a DICOMDIR file. DICOMDIR files are located in the root directory of medical CD/DVDs given to patients.

IG Viewer’s Import Tool makes it possible to import a study to the ImageGrid from any PC or workstation (with or without a DICOMDIR file), according to the company. After importing to the IG Viewer, the study can be viewed or sent to an AE Title on the ImageGrid. Viewing of large multiframe images (over 10,000 frames) is available immediately with IG Viewer’s streaming ability, which allows radiologists to view frames as they are received at the workstation.
