September 13, 2011 — Ziehm Imaging is showcasing the next generation of its mobile C-arm, Ziehm Vision RFD, at the 2011 Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) congress. The event is Europe's largest annual session on interventional radiology. More than 6,500 doctors are expected to attend the event in Munich from Sept. 10-14.
The hybrid edition offers high-quality imaging and ensures uninterrupted use with unlimited fluoroscopy times; this makes it a reliable alternative to stationary imaging systems for hybrid operating rooms (ORs). Because of its mobility and significantly lower investment costs, the hybrid edition is also a cost-effective solution for hospitals with space and budgetary constraints. Since its market launch in spring 2011, 30 hospitals around the globe have already opted for the hybrid edition.
Complex procedures in vascular and cardiac surgery as well as cardiology can only be carried out in conjunction with reliable, high-resolution intra-operative imaging. The hybrid edition features innovative flat-panel technology and delivers distortion-free images with more than 16,000 shades of gray and a resolution of 1.5k x 1.5k pixels. The square display format creates a significantly larger visible area with up to 60 percent more information per X-ray than conventional image intensifiers. Zahi E Nassoura, M.D., at the Providence Tarzana Medical Center says, "Ziehm Imaging RFD is far superior to other C-arms thanks to its exact and highly detailed reproduction of arteries, stenosis, balloons and stents. It provides all the detailed information that we need for successful stent implants or transplants."
The hybrid edition of Ziehm Vision RFD is tailored to hybrid OR requirements. The compact, 20-kilowatt (kW) monoblock generator with a rotating anode guarantees a variable pulse width between 4 and 50 milliseconds (ms) for crystal-clear images. With up to 25 images per second, the hybrid edition also produces high-quality X-rays of moving objects such as a beating heart.
Its active liquid cooling system keeps the operating temperature steady, preventing the generator from overheating and ensuring continuous imaging. The injector interface synchronizes injection of contrast media with the imaging process. The Remote Vision Center features an operator panel that can be accessed via a touch screen directly at the OR table, ensuring the entire C-arm can be controlled from a sterile environment
The hybrid edition also comes with the new SmartVascular software, enabling surgeons to create a digital subtraction angiography (DSA) at any time without having to take manual intermediate steps. It automates all process steps from DSA to roadmapping, allowing vascular procedures to be planned with minimum amounts of contrast media and shorter fluoroscopy times.
