September 9, 2008 – TomoTherapy and Vision RT jointly developed AlignRT 3D imaging technology for the Hi·Art platform and will present the solution at the annual meeting of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) in Boston, MA., Sept. 21-25, 2008.
TomoTherapy will distribute AlignRT for use with both its TomoHelical and new TomoDirect delivery modes. Similar to the enhancment TomoDirect provides for Hi·Art treatment delivery, AlignRT also offers the Hi·Art system a new option to improve patient throughput across a broad range of cancer cases.
AlignRT for the Hi·Art platform will consist of two ceiling-mounted 3D camera units, each focused on the external isocenter of the radiotherapy device. Immediately prior to treatment, the patient will lie on the treatment couch for initial set-up. The cameras will then quickly acquire a surface scan of the body in treatment position, and state-of-the-art software will be used to register real-time image data to the reference surface scan, and—within seconds—provide new couch coordinates for optimal patient positioning.
