Stanford Hospital and Clinics announced yesterday that it put in an order for a portable, self-shielding electron-beam radiation unit by IntraOp Medical Corporation, a technology solutions provider, in a move to create greater flexibility in electron radiation therapy and shorten treatment cycles.
Stanford Hospital & Clinics, including its cancer treatment center, Stanford Comprehensive Cancer Center, will replace its former intraoperative radiation therapy system with Mobetron to treat colorectal, gynecological, gastric, pancreatic, orthopedic, pediatric, breast and head and neck cancers, among others. Mobetron, a portable, self-shielding device that delivers intraoperative electron radiation therapy, allows hospitals to wheel the system between operating rooms without additional renovations.
