July 18, 2007 - For 2008, the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) is once again offering two $50,000 grants to support original hypothesis-driven research in the field of imaging informatics for residents, fellows, graduate students and junior faculty.
In addition, SIIM is introducing three new grant initiatives: a small grant program for imaging informatics training and product support development, an emeritus mentor grant and a micro grant. The new SIIM Small Grant Program is targeted at students and imaging informatics professionals. It consists of two grant programs, one focused on career development/training opportunities to support hands-on training or experience with a designated mentor or sponsor in the imaging informatics arena; the other to support the development of a tool or product that would be available to the imaging informatics community. A SIIM small grant provides $20,000 of support for 3 to 12 months.
The Emeritus Mentor Grant is a new class of SIIM Grant providing limited funds ($20,000 of support for one year) for a retired, or semi-retired, expert in imaging informatics to act as a mentor for a trainee (student, resident, fellow) or junior faculty member. The application must be made jointly by the trainee or junior faculty member and the proposed mentor.
