Siemens introduced at SNM its HD PET, a technology which is designed to deliver superior detection of small lesions, dramatically greater staging capabilities and therapy accuracy.
True V extended field-of-view (FOV) technology in HD PET reportedly improves 2 mm resolution to clearly visualize the smallest of lesions from the center to the edges. It provides twice the signal-to-noise improvement and near uniform spatial resolution throughout the FOV. HD PET incorporates millions of point spread functions (PSFs) in the reconstruction algorithms. Using measured PSFs, HD PET effectively positions the line of response in their actual geometric location, which dramatically reduces blurring and distortion in the final image.
HD PET’s specificity and accuracy will be useful for physicians delineating small lesions, including those in the lymph nodes, abdomen, head and neck and brain, to provide earlier, more targeted treatment.
The side-by-side images demonstrate a typical positron emission tomography and computed tomography (PET/CT) combination image before (left side) and after applying Siemens Medical Solutions HD PET algorithm. The clarity achieved by HD PET is the result of a proprietary technology that optimizes the elements of image uniformity, resolution and contrast.
