March 24, 2008 – Siemens officially released the new Biograph 40 TruePoint PET-CT system and celebrated the first installation, offering high-definition PET technology designed to provide consistently sharper and clearly defined images across the entire field of view, according to the company.
Installed at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX, UT patients will be the first to utilize the system. The 2-millimeter resolution is said to enable physicians to clearly visualize small lesions, from the center to the edges. HD-PET can reportedly provide high-resolution images throughout the entire PET field of view while enhancing contrast. The improvement in signal to noise, which is said to effectively double, provides images that allow the clinician to better differentiate between healthy and suspicious tissue, which could be useful in cases of obese patients, according to the company.
