July 29, 2008 - Accuray showcased its Sequential Optimization, a treatment planning optimization method designed specifically for the CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System.
Sequentional Optimization was designed to both improve the ease of creating quality treatment plans and make the treatment planning process faster and more intuitive. With this approach, the system optimizes specific clinical objectives thomogeneity, coverage, conformality and organ at risk protection sequentially as a series of individual optimization steps. This approach allows the user to build up the treatment plan one clinical objective at a time.
According to the company, Sequentional Optimization intuitively facilitates the creation of elaborate multiple collimator treatment plans. When used with the Iris Variable Collimator, up to t12 field sizes can be combined in any treatment plan, which enables significant improvements in plan quality and reduction in treatment time in many cases.
