March 27, 2008 - Seal Shield LLC recently introduced the new SILVER SEAL Washable, Antimicrobial Mouse, which the company said is the first computer mouse to be fully submersible, dishwasher safe, and manufactured with silver-ion antimicrobial plastic.
The new SILVER SEAL mouse has been created to help reduce the risk of cross contaminations, including Influenza and the “superbug,” MRSA. The new mouse is a companion product to the company’s SILVER SEAL Washable, Antimicrobial Keyboard, which began shipping in February 2008.
Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause severe illness, and can lead to death. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control), 5-20 percent of the population gets the flu annually, more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications, and about 36,000 people die from flu. Bacterial infections can occur as co-infections with influenza or occur following influenza infection. Last year, CDC noted an increase in flu and Staphylococcus aureus (staph infections) co-infections among children who had died or were hospitalized with influenza infection. Some of those infections were MRSA.
SILVER SEAL protects against infections. Unlike other antibacterial products, the SILVER SEAL antimicrobial plastic utilizes pure silver ions embedded in the plastic to create a safe and effective antimicrobial solution. Silver is a natural antibacterial product and its properties have been incorporated into the SILVER SEAL Keyboard using new nanotechnology. The combination of SILVER SEAL plastic and SEAL SHIELD washable technology results in a high level of cross contamination protection, the manufacturer said.
