February 11, 2010 – former president Bill Clinton received two coronary stents today after being admitted to the hospital with chest pains.
In a statement from Clinton’s counselor Douglas Band, was admitted to the Columbia Campus of New York Presbyterian Hospital after feeling discomfort in his chest. After a visit to his cardiologist, he underwent a procedure to place two stents in one of his coronary arteries. Clinton is said to be in good spirits following the procedure this afternoon.
In 2004, President Clinton underwent a successful quadruple cardiac bypass surgery to open four blocked arteries. The blockages were treated surgically because his doctors considered them to severe for stenting.
The former president, age 63, has been working through his foundation recently to aid Haitian relief efforts.
