June 5, 2007 - Positron Corp. announced that it will launch in spring of 2008 a new dedicated-PET scanner for cardiac imaging.
The system is said to have faster attenuation than previous dedicated PET models, includes quantitative coronary disease software and will sell for under $600,000.
“There is a massive cardiology PET market that is under appreciated,” said Joe Oliverio, president of Positron. “Lower prices scanner with quantitative coronary software is perfect for the market.”
According to Oliveri, CT is not essential for good cardiac PET imaging. Although the company will also launch a PET/CT model by the end of 2008. “We think that cardiac PET is the next SPECT,” said Oliverio.
