January 15, 2009 - Isodose Control released the Flexiplan 2.5 brachytherapy planning system designed to assist planning in three areas: intelligent image manipulation, contouring and dose optimization.
Flexiplan allows fusion of different datasets, and can digitally reconstruct radiographs (calculated X-Ray films) from CT images to provide complete patient information in one view for fast applicator reconstruction.
True 3D contouring on reconstructed or oblique images is reportedly faster and easier. Automatic contouring (on Hounsfield values) also helps to save valuable procedure time. Complex structures such as the trachea (multiple closed contours) can now be identified as a single structure and contoured in multiple planes. According to the developer, this means volumes of complex structure can now be calculated in seconds.
Flexiplan 2.5 supports new protocols, such as Mammosite, and includes improved optimization and calculation methods. Dose volumes are now automatically calculated in absolute values, such as cm3. The minimum/maximum surface dose detection can also be expressed in absolute values. Working with absolute values is a much safer and easier process making treatment planning a more exact science.
Previous features such as the zero-reference metric positioning system, smart user interface and offering real-time planning in the same package remain key in this new release.
