January 8, 2008 - MEDHOST, a provider of emergency department information systems (EDIS), said yesterday it successfully integrated with the FreeNET Voice Over Wireless Fidelity (VoWiFi) system from Ascom, allowing messages and alerts generated in MEDHOST to be distributed to multiple types of wireless devices.

With Ascom, MEDHOST alerts and notifications can be immediately distributed to any device with e-mail or text message capabilities. Messages can include test results, patient reassessment reminders, patient registration or discharge. Ascom allows clinicians to receive MEDHOST alerts on their own day-to-day device used for hospital communication, or on an Ascom VoWiFi handset.

“By interfacing Ascom with our MEDHOST EDIS, clinicians have fewer items to carry, patient flow will improve and there will be better communication,” said Steve Lanning, director of emergency services at Conway Medical Center. “The interface enables MEDHOST’s auto pages to be received directly on our Ascom phones, so new orders are completed faster, and alerts about new patients are received in real time on one device.”

MEDHOST currently serves more than 130 facilities, including the Baylor Healthcare System in Texas, Catholic Healthcare West in California, Catholic Health System in New York and Tenet Healthcare Corp.
