IntraOp Medical Corp. highlights its Mobetron intraoperative electron beam radiation therapy (IOERT) technology, designed to help radiation and surgical oncologists pinpoint the exact area that requires radiation and immediately deliver high doses directly to the affected tissue during cancer surgery.
Mobetron is an operating room-ready, fully portable, self-shielding electron beam linear accelerator that can be moved between operating rooms, obviating the need for healthcare facilities to invest in costly renovations to accommodate traditional radiation therapy devices. IntraOp emphasizes that Mobetron offers better local tumor control, shorter treatment cycles and fewer patient side effects.
Because it does not have to pass through healthy skin, organs and tissue, IOERT can be delivered at higher cancer-killing doses, and also may permit the post-operative radiation cycle to be shortened, depending on the protocol. IOERT eliminates the traditional delay of external radiation therapy, which must be scheduled after the surgery patient has healed, giving cancer cells the chance to recover and spread, according to the company.
The IntraOp Table, which is a surgical couch designed to allow full access to the patient, enables optimal positioning for IOERT and surgical treatment.
