October 25, 2012 — InterSystems Corp., a provider of software for healthcare interoperability, and eHealth Technologies, a provider of imaging solutions for electronic health records (EHR) and health information exchange (HIE) solutions, entered a partnership to provide single-click access to diagnostic-quality images such as X-rays, computed tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance images (MRIs) and ultrasounds via the InterSystems HealthShare strategic informatics platform. HealthShare is currently used by hospitals, integrated delivery networks, and regional and national HIEs worldwide.
“eHealth Technologies shares our vision for connected care by empowering healthcare providers and physicians with secure, timely access to all patient data, including diagnostic-quality picture archiving and communication system (PACS) images. Digital images are an essential element of the patient record, and we are thrilled to partner with eHealth Technologies to provide this capability to HealthShare customers worldwide," said Dominick Bizzarro, global business manager, InterSystems HealthShare.
External images that traditionally take hours or days to retrieve, if retrievable at all, are typically hand-carried by patients, couriered on CDs or sent via large file transfers. Using eHealth Technologies’ eHealth Imaging Solutions, images are delivered along with results, enabling care providers single-click access to seamlessly view and collaborate using a secure, diagnostic-quality, zero-footprint, Web-based application. In addition, emergent image delivery will support emergency care providers by providing images prior to report generation, a capability that will drastically reduce the time-to-care in the most vital situations.
“We are thrilled to be working with InterSystems to further improve care for patients,” said Ken Rosenfeld, president of eHealth Technologies. “Imaging is a vital piece of the patient record that has typically been difficult and very expensive to share, and not linked to the systems clinicians use on a daily basis, leading to repeat tests which are not only expensive for patients and payers, but expose the patient to unnecessary radiation exposure. The importance of embedding image access within EHR and HIE systems is further supported by the meaningful use Stage 2 criteria.”
The digital imaging capability will be available on InterSystems HealthShare in fall 2012.
