April 13, 2009 — According to Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), its annual show last week drew an estimated 27,500 attendees.
HIMSS attributes this year’s strong attendance to a combination of employment growth in the healthcare sector, the $19.2 billion designated for health IT in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Chicago’s central location, in addition to the educational programming and networking opportunities. While HIMSS 2009 saw a decrease from last year’s 29,100 attendees, the organization believes it is a result of general economic conditions and fewer personnel staffing exhibitor booths.
HIMSS 2010 is scheduled for March 1–4 in Atlanta.
