Hayes Inc., an independent health technology assessment company, has completed a comprehensive comparison of five gadolinium-based contrast media for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) applications. The report provides an evidence-based assessment of the diagnostic performance and comparative safety profiles of MultiHance vs. Magnevist, Omniscan, OptiMARK and ProHance.
The comparison found that MultiHance (gadobenate dimeglumine) exhibits a higher relaxivity in plasma, which may provide better image quality and diagnostic performance than other gadolinium-based contrast agents for certain organs, including the central nervous system, liver, kidneys and breasts.
