March 9, 2012 — At the 2012 Tape Summit, Fujifilm Medical Systems U.S.A. Inc. and Fujifilm Recording Media U.S.A. Inc. announced a joint venture to launch the Permivault cloud-based storage service that expands upon Fujifilm Medical Systems’ Synapse managed services platform.  The new service is designed for health and medical data management but is also available for any customer requiring file-based storage.

Permivault cloud-based file storage services provide both on- and off-site solutions for disaster recovery and long-term data archiving.  Fujifilm created the Permivault service to help customers solve their long-term, off-site storage requirements with a cost-effective cloud solution.

“Our history of success in storing and protecting medical data combined with Fujifilm Recording Media’s experience with advanced, tape-based technologies has led to the creation of a true breakthrough in data storage,” said Jim Morgan, vice president of medical informatics for Fujifilm Medical Systems. “This is not a service that we started from scratch, rather it is a winning mix of our respective technology expertise and overall medical industry experience that will meet the demands for securely protecting and storing sensitive patient data.”

Built on Fujifilm’s successful Medical Managed Services platform, Permivault cloud storage services provide a secure storage architecture powered by StrongBox from Crossroads Systems Inc.  StrongBox is the first enterprise-level storage solution that leverages linear tape file system (LTFS) technology, combining the unparalleled scalability of tape with the speed and accessibility of disk.

“With the continued explosion of data, customers demand a cost-effective solution that is secure, accessible and reliable for off-site second copy.  Permivault gives users online access but with the data protection features to meet enterprise-specific needs,” said Dan Greenberg, director of new products, Fujifilm Recording Media.

Permivault cloud storage services will be officially launched at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show, April 14 – 19, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nev.
