April 1, 2008 - A patented Foley catheter holder that stabilizes an indwelling catheter to help prevent irritation, bladder spasms, and urethral erosion, which contribute to UTIs, is available from Dale Medical Products Inc.

The Dale Foley Catheter Holder is designed to secure a catheter anywhere along the tube or at the “Y” port to minimize its movement, help prevent urinary tract infections, and enhance patient comfort. Featuring a soft, supple, 2-inch wide leg band that can be rotated to either leg, the catheter is anchored using a green Velcro locking device with two interlocking tabs.

The company says the device eliminates skin irritation, which can result from taping and shaving the patient. The latex-free device is also said to be easy to apply and stretches without narrowing to avoid the tourniquet effect. Maintaining its position on the leg, whether ambulatory or bed-ridden, the holder will not constrict the blood flow of superficial or deep veins.
