August 10, 2007 – FASA has announced that their Outcomes Monitoring Project now includes eight new clinical benchmarks.
Based on recommendations by the ASC Quality Collaboration, the new clinical benchmarks include:
1. Patient burns
2. Wrong site surgery
3. Retained foreign objects
4. Patient death
5. Patient falls
6. Medical device failure
7. Return to surgery
8. On-time prophylactic IV antibiotic administration.
First quarter results from the Project indicate over 96 percent, 99 percent and 95 percent of ASCs surveyed reported no patient burns, no retained foreign objects and no wrong site surgeries, respectively. Second quarter survey forms for the Project are due Wednesday, Aug. 15.
