May 15, 2008 – Everbrite Lighting Technologies (ELT) has released its newest environmentally friendly lighting product - the MedLux XLS II light fixture, featuring MRI-safe, recessed, light-emitting diode (LED) light fixtures.
The new LED fixture is designed to be a brighter and more energy-efficient lighting system, using less than 60 watts of electrical energy to deliver 50 foot candles of light at task level, equivalent to the amount of light produced by a 150 watt incandescent light fixture.
The MedLux XLS II will be available starting in July 2008.
The XLS II provides double the light output of the current model XLS, allowing more than enough light to assist with biopsies, starting intravenous catheters and other minimally invasive procedures conducted in MRI facilities. The brighter light reduces the overall number of fixtures needed in a room – reportedly making the cost of lighting a room less expensive.
The XLS II also works with the same dimmer control system developed for the original XLS light. The dimmer control, which can be located in or outside of the shield room, provides consistent color temperature at all lighting levels and is fast reacting when full light is needed quickly. In addition, LEDs do not use filaments, which are prone to early failure due to high magnetic fields.
