November 2, 2007 – Elekta showcased at ASTRO 2007 its Elekta Synergy, a multifunctional Intensity Modulated and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IMRT and IGRT) system that reportedly provides automated workflow tools and 3D volumetric imaging at the time of treatment.
Reportedly designed to inspire clinical confidence, Elekta Synergy is an advanced digital linear accelerator and first platform to enable clinicians to image and treat patients simultaneously, according to the company. The combination of high-resolution imaging, taken in 3D and at the time of treatment, combined with workflow solutions developed to be applicable on a routine basis, is described as ‘4D Adaptive’ and is the Elekta IGRT solution.
Elekta also brought to ASTRO its Elekta Axesse, a whole body, robotic image-guided stereotactic treatment management system that reportedly streamlines workflow through a combination of advanced robotics, integrated software and patient-friendly immobilization.
Also featured at the show was the Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion, said to be the latest generation of Gamma Knife surgery for cranial radiosurgery and the only radiation technology that has a specific indication for the treatment of brain metastases.
Finally, the company showcased its Elekta Infinity, a new digital linear accelerator optimized for delivering Volumetric Intensity Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT). Utilizing the company’s VMAT solution reportedly improves on existing IMRT technologies. targeting tumors with more precision, protecting surrounding healthy tissue, whilst drastically reducing radiation therapy treatment times.
