Sony Electronics showed a range of imagers designed to bring enhanced versatility and cost-effectiveness to its comprehensive printer lineup.
On display at SNM were the UP-D77MD model color dye-sublimation DICOM imager, with 300-dpi letter size output. It is designed to support a full range of modalities that call for high-quality color printing, including PET/CT and other nuclear medicine modalities. The 8 x 10-inch color printer produces high-quality, smudge-free images for referring physicians and patient records.
The UP-D77MD uses advanced dye-sublimation technology with robust color management. It is optimized to support accurate color reproduction and screen-to-print color matching without altering grayscale values. Once calibrated, settings may be copied to other UP-D77MD printers to streamline setup and deliver consistent output across all devices.
Also showcased at SNM was the dual-tray FilmStation dry film imager, which supports 8- by 10-inch, 10- by 12-inch and 11- by 14-inch film in a second media tray, complementing its native 14- by 17-inch film capability.
The UP-DF550 model offers the same image quality, speed and compact footprint as the original FilmStation imager, with an expanded range of film sizes.
The imager delivers high-resolution images in 4,096 shades of gray, with exceptional optical density, with the help of its thermal print head and blue thermal film specifically engineered for the system. The imager also reduces space requirements by enabling both vertical and horizontal positioning. It can stand upright directly under a desktop, or alongside a workstation where it also supports distributed workflow and eliminates time-consuming travel to and from a central imager. The new model’s automatic calibration feature provides reportedly consistent image quality, regardless of film size selected, while easy access to manual settings allows fine-tuning.
