April 10, 2007 - Medical device maker DexCom Inc. is one step closer to gaining reimbursement for its continuous glucose monitoring devices.
The company said the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid issued a positive preliminary decision on Friday for DexCom to develop Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System codes for its devices. The codes describe specific health care items and procedures and are necessary for processing health insurance claims.
However, DexCom must still receive a final decision from CMS following a public meeting on May 1.
The company expects a final decision to be published in late October or early November. If the code is issued then, DexCom expects the HCPCS codes to go into effect Jan. 1, 2008.
