December 2, 2010 – A cloud-based vendor-neutral storage platform brings together images and metadata from multiple PACS and supports the creation of a master patient index (MPI). The Medweb Cloud can be used for any specialty-based telemedicine and information-management application, including teleradiology, PACS and RIS.
It also uses industry standards, such as DICOM, HL7, IHE and XDS to share patient data across healthcare facilities and systems.
With the XDS capability, Medweb Cloud supports each facility’s security and infrastructure requirements. In addition to images, reports and other patient data, the IHE-compliant archive also stores video and other 4-D medical imaging studies. Two copies of all data are stored for redundancy and the archive fulfills HIPAA requirements for disaster recovery and business continuance.
“With Medweb Cloud, facilities can add storage capacity as needed and provide new ways to share images and information without the hassle of burning CDs/DVDs,” said Pete Killcommons, M.D., CEO of Medweb. “Giving clinicians the ability to access exams – regardless of the type of study or specialty – when and where it is needed via a secure, cloud storage helps improve clinical workflow and reduce operating expense.”
