April 10, 2007 - Bionix Radiation Therapy recently introduced its Prone Breast System, a patient positioning device that features a foam cushion set designed to attach to the multi-treatment base, the same base used with the pelvis/belly system.
The Prone Breast System is the newest product in the line of patient positioning devices and uses a reversible carbon fiber breast bridge to hold the contra lateral breast out of the treatment field. Additionally a massage style face cushion supports the head with an opening for airflow allowing patients to breath freely.
Radiation therapy professionals reportedly use the Prone Breast System for prone breast treatments to deliver less irradiation to surrounding tissue. Gravity is utilized to separate cancerous masses from surrounding lung and cardiac tissue and for greater reproducibility of the breast being treated.
