Murray Rebner, MD, FACR, FSBI
December 16, 2022 — Murray Rebner, MD, FACR, FSBI, has been named 2023 Gold Medal Award winner. He will be honored at the President's Gala, which will take place during next year's SBI Breast Imaging Symposium.
Dr. Murray Rebner was born in Montreal, Canada. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees in 1975 and 1980 at McGill University. He completed his radiology residency training in 1984 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor Michigan where he also did a one- year fellowship in breast imaging, chest imaging and ultrasound in 1985. He remained on the faculty of the department of diagnostic radiology at the University of Michigan for four years and attained the rank of assistant professor.
Rebner then went to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit where he was a staff radiologist for eight years. He became the section chief of breast imaging there after three years. He worked exclusively in breast imaging and helped advance their breast imaging and biopsy program and develop their breast imaging fellowship program.
Rebner then joined the staff at William Beaumont Hospital and has been there for the past 24 years. He was division chief for 20 years and currently is a staff member of the division of breast imaging and a Professor of Radiology and Molecular Imaging at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. He is committed to bringing the best cutting-edge technology to Beaumont patients to help reduce their mortality from breast cancer. Under his leadership his division introduced digital mammography, computer aided detection double reading for screening mammograms and MR guided breast biopsy to the women in Michigan. Beaumont was also the first in the state to receive breast MRI accreditation from the American College of Radiology.
