At the 2017 annual meeting of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM), June 1-3 in Pittsburgh, Konica Minolta Healthcare Americas Inc. will showcase advanced specialty viewing capabilities of the Exa Enterprise Imaging platform. The platform facilitates the viewing of large medical imaging files, such as 3-D mammography, cardiac imaging and nuclear medicine, quickly and efficiently on existing workstations throughout the enterprise. With the Exa diagnostic quality Zero Footprint Universal Viewer, clinicians can view these images and more from any modality and any vendor. Exa delivers relevant priors from the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) or vendor neutral archive (VNA), including 3-D breast tomosynthesis and cardiovascular images quickly and securely.

Konica Minolta Healthcare Americas Inc. announced its participation as a sponsor of the Pre-Conference Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) Workshop at the 2017 Society of Breast Imaging (SBI)/American College of Radiology (ACR) Breast Imaging Symposium, April 6-9 in Los Angeles. The workshop provided eight hours of initial training in DBT as required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and attendees had the opportunity to review and report cases on individual DBT workstations, such as Konica Minolta’s Exa Mammo.

Organizations across the country — even globally — are taking a hard look at their imaging ecosystems and determining it is time for change. Most technology and clinical leaders have read, listened to and observed the imaging vendor narrative over the past few years while they focused primarily on deploying the electronic health records (HER). Now most feel comfortable enough — either internally or with the help of consultants — to tackle this next huge patient record initiative. Vendor neutral archives (VNA), viewers, workflow, analytics, integration and exchange are all under review as components of the enterprise imaging effort. The good news for those in this phase of discovery and analysis is that the pioneers are far enough down the path to prove that an enterprise approach can be incredibly successful and that there are organizational, clinical, technical and even financial benefits to adopting this model.
